Text to Speech

Paste any text and have your browser read it aloud, with a voice, speed and pitch you choose.

Runs in your browser · nothing uploaded

Available voices depend on your device and operating system.

Hearing text read back is a fast way to proof your writing, rest your eyes, or turn an article into something you can listen to while doing something else. Paste the text, pick a voice, and press play.

The reading is done by the voices already built into your browser and device, so it happens locally and your text is not sent to a server. The voices on offer depend on your operating system, which is why the list differs between a phone, a Mac and a Windows machine.

How it works

  1. 1

    Paste your text

Drop in a paragraph, an article or a script. There is no length sign-up gate.

  2. 2

    Choose a voice and speed

Pick from the voices your device offers and set the rate and pitch to something comfortable.

  3. 3

    Play, pause, resume

Start the reading and follow along, pausing and resuming whenever you need to.

Questions about text to speech

Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The reading uses the speech voices built into your browser and device, so your text is not uploaded to a server.
Why are the voices different on my phone and laptop?
The voices come from your operating system, not from us. Each device ships its own set, so the choices differ.
Can I download the audio as a file?
Browser speech plays live rather than producing a file. Use it for listening and proofing rather than exporting an audio clip.
Which languages are supported?
Whatever voice packs your device has installed. Many systems include several languages out of the box, and you can add more in your system settings.
