Frequently asked questions

Is this the real Wingdings font?
It is not the font file itself. Wingdings renders by changing how a font draws each letter, which only works where that font is installed. This translator instead maps each letter to the closest standalone Unicode symbol, so a becomes a recognisable picture character that copies and pastes and shows up without anyone needing the Wingdings font.
Why do a few letters look slightly different from the original?
Some Wingdings glyphs have an exact Unicode match, like the smiley face or the skull, while a handful only have a close cousin. We pick the nearest recognisable symbol for those, so the overall set reads as Wingdings even if one or two pictures vary a little.
Which characters can I translate?
The translator covers the letters A to Z and the digits 0 to 9, mapping each to its nearest picture symbol. Punctuation and spaces are passed through so a phrase keeps its word breaks, and anything without a good symbol match is left as it is.
