Frequently asked questions
- How does the love calculator work?
- It uses the classic FLAMES method. It writes both names out, cancels the letters they share one for one, and counts what is left. That number is then counted around the word FLAMES (Friends, Lovers, Affection, Marriage, Enemies, Siblings) until a single relationship remains. The percentage comes from tallying the shared letters across both names and folding them into a score.
- Is the result random?
- No, and that is the point. The same two names always produce the same percentage and the same FLAMES label, because the whole thing is worked out from the letters rather than a dice roll. Swap the order of the names and you still get the same answer.
- Is this a real compatibility test?
- Not even slightly. It is a bit of fun based on a letter game that has been played on paper for generations. Take a low score with a smile and a high score with a pinch of salt. Real compatibility is not spelled out in your names.
- Does the order of the names matter?
- No. Whether you enter your name or theirs first, the score and the relationship stay the same, because the method looks at the letters both names share rather than who came first.
