Frequently asked questions
- How is words per minute calculated?
- Words per minute counts every five characters as one word, scaled to a full minute. So typing 250 correct characters in 60 seconds is 250 / 5 = 50 words, which gives 50 wpm. This is the same method typing tests have used for decades, so your score is comparable with other tools.
- How does accuracy work?
- Accuracy is the share of characters you typed correctly out of everything you typed. Mistakes are highlighted as you go, and a result combining a high speed with high accuracy is worth more than raw speed alone.
- When does the timer start?
- It starts on your first keystroke, not when the page loads, so you are not penalised for reading the words first. The test ends automatically when the time is up and shows your score.
- Can I retake the test?
