- What are the generation year ranges?
- This tool uses the widely cited ranges: the Silent Generation is 1928 to 1945, Baby Boomers 1946 to 1964, Generation X 1965 to 1980, Millennials 1981 to 1996, Generation Z 1997 to 2012, Generation Alpha 2013 to 2024, and Generation Beta from 2025 onward. Boundaries vary a little between sources, so treat the edges as approximate.
- What does on the cusp mean?
- If your birth year falls on the first or last year of a generation, you sit on the boundary with the neighbouring generation and often relate to both. People born around 1980 (Xennials) or the mid-1990s (Zillennials) are common examples, so the tool flags it for you.
- Which year should I use if I was born near new year?
- Generations are grouped by birth year alone, so use the year you were born regardless of the month. The exact day does not change which generation you fall into.
- Are these official definitions?
- The ranges for the Silent Generation through Generation Z follow the definitions Pew Research uses, which are the most widely quoted. Gen Alpha and Gen Beta are newer labels without a single official body behind them, so their start years are the commonly agreed ones rather than a fixed standard.
