- How do I split a bill with tip and tax?

- Should the tip be worked out before or after tax?
- This tip and split calculator applies the tip to the pre-tax subtotal, which is the common convention. If your receipt already includes tax in the figure you tip on, add the tax as $0 and put the full amount in the bill field instead.
- What does rounding up per person do?
- It takes each person's share up to the next whole dollar so the payments are tidy. The result shows the small overage that collects above the bill, which usually rolls into a slightly larger tip.
- How can one person pay more than the others?
- Mark them as a big eater. Each big eater covers a double share, and everyone else splits what's left. It's handy when a few people ordered steak and cocktails while others had a salad.
